All Game News Gaming News from around the World Fri, 05 Aug 2016 09:43:27 +0000 en-US hourly 1 This week’s best game deals: ABZU, World of Warcraft Legion, PS VR and more Fri, 05 Aug 2016 09:43:27 +0000 Another week, another set of deals to save you some dough. Here we go:

Hello again and welcome to another round-up of the week’s best deals and offers from the realm of games and tech. As always, there’s not much we ask of you here – if you see something you like, give it a click and maybe save some pennies. If you happen to buy something from this list, there’s a chance that VG247 will get a tiny financial kick-back from each sale, so you’ll be helping to pay the bills. If nothing appeals to you, then no worries. Continue to go about your day as normal. We’re cool.

As a reminder, while we do our best to make sure these deals are all active and in stock at the time of posting, deals on the internet are fantastically fickle. What that means is that there’s always a small chance that a deal may have ended or an item may be out of stock by the time you click that link. Right, let’s get on with it and take a look at this week’s batch of deals. We’ll start with the US deals, if you’re reading from the UK, skip down the page about half way.

US Deals

LG UltraWide

This LG 29 inch UltraWide monitor had previously been spotted on offer for a discounted price of $240, down from its original $400 price tag. That deal quickly sold out at the time, but as luck would have it, not only has this monitor appeared back in stock but has been discounted by a further $20. Not sure how long the stock on this one will last this time, but it’s the cheapest way to get an UltraWide monitor anywhere right now.

Bloodborne is another one of those games that most PlayStation owners will describe as a “must-own”. Though, odds are good that Bloodborne will be a little more divisive than, say, Uncharted or The Last of Us, it’s certainly one of the key PlayStation exclusives to date. Amazon are offering this one up to Prime members for $13.24 at the moment.

This Vizio is a 55 inch 4K TV that will currently cost you just shy of $600. Sure, it’s not one of the more glamorous brand names out there, but if you’re looking for a way into 4K that won’t cost you a four-figure sum, this is a good bet.

If you’re a diehard anime fan or you’ve been alive in the past twenty years or ago, you’ll probably have heard of Naruto. Not only is it one of the most widely recognised animes around, it also has a cavalcade of video games bearing its name. The latest of which, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, is currently on offer for $20 for Xbox One and PS4.

UK Deals

GamesPlanet currently haa Summer Sale going on, featuring a whole host of PC download titles at extra cheap prices. These are mostly Steam keys, but with the odd uPlay and Origin codes mixed in there too. We’ve included some sale highlights below.

This one’s for the VR enthusiasts. If you’re eagerly awaiting the release of the PlayStation VR headset you’ll have noticed, just like we did, that it’s a pretty flat price point. £350 pretty much everywhere you look. But thanks to Tesco’s “£20 off electronics” discount voucher, you can now pre-order a PS VR for £329. Sure, it’s not a huge discount, but every little helps. One thing to note about this one is that you’ll pay for the headset at the time of pre-order and not when the product actually ships, so make sure you’ve got money in your bank account. Your call.

If, somehow, you are a PS4 owner who hasn’t yet played The Last Of Us in its fancy remastered form, you’ve probably been told a whole bunch of times that you definitely should play it. Luckily, Amazon will currently sell you a copy of the game for £18 brand new.

Xbox Rainbow

In the same week that the brand new Xbox One S is released, Microsoft has gone and put together one of the best value bundles around for an older style Xbox One console. Sure, they’re most likely clearing out old stock, but if you’re not fussed about the smaller, slimmer version of the console, this is a hard deal to turn down. In this bundle, you’ll get –

  • 1TB Xbox One Console
  • Rainbow Six: Siege
  • Rainbow Six: Vegas
  • Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
  • Rainbow Six: Siege Season Pass
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Forza Motorsport 6
  • A custom battery hatch for your controller with your GamerTag printed on

All of that will cost you £249.99 right now, over at Microsoft’s own store. Nice.

One of the past week’s most talked about releases, ABZU, is currently on offer over at Green Man Gaming for £9.79. That puts it a couple pound under the current Steam pricing and the cheapest way to currently get the game, at least on PC.

If you’re waiting on the release of the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Legion, but haven’t taken the plunge into buying the pre-purchase set yet, this one’s for you. Amazon are currently selling the Legion pre-purchase edition for £26.85. For that price, you’ll get access to Legion upon release, but also an instant use boost to bring one of your characters up to level 100, as well as access to the Demon Hunter class a little bit early – on August 9th.

The Fall

Last but certainly not least on this list, indie sci-fi side-scroller The Fall is on sale over on Steam right now. It’s down 90% to just 99 cents (and 69p in the UK). If you haven’t played this one by now, I’d encourage you to pick up a copy and play through, as it’s a super atmospheric adventure game that doesn’t seem to get talked about as much as it should be. It’s short, but man is it worth the ride.

That’s it for another week of deals in the world of gaming and tech and stuff. Do keep in mind that all deals, stock and prices can (and sometimes do) change at any time, so sorry if that happens. As always, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more low prices, deals and offers over at Jelly Deals, or you can follow us over at Twitter or Facebook. See you next week!

Microsoft will “have things to say” this fall, fan event possible Fri, 05 Aug 2016 08:00:53 +0000 Although Microsoft won’t be at gamescom this year, the company will have some news this fall.

Microsoft revealed that it won’t hold a press conference at gamescom this year. The company will have a presence at the show, but we won’t get the traditional briefing.

It now appears Microsoft is saving up yet more news for later this year. Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently took to Twitter to answer a few fan questions and revealed that Microsoft “will have things to say this fall.”

Although he was careful not to spell out too many details, Spencer said the company may do this in a new venue, saying that he wants to visit some fans he hasn’t visited before, though the timing for this event has yet to be decided.

When asked whether or not a PlayStation Experience-like event (Sony’s end-of-year fan gathering) is on the cards for Microsoft, Spencer pointed out that the company had hosted similar events in the past with the X0 events, and didn’t completely discount the idea of a similar event for Microsoft.

Microsoft’s E3 showcase in June was full of announcements, particularly when it comes to hardware. While it’s disappointing the yearly gamescom check-in isn’t happening this year, perhaps this will mean more important news will be saved for the supposed fall event.

Valve is offering free VR tech to third party hardware companies Fri, 05 Aug 2016 06:38:32 +0000 Valve has taken a step to ensure that future VR development is a smoother experience.

As reported by Gamespot, Valve is now licensing Steam VR Tracking to any hardware company who wants to use it, royalty free.

Valve has listed the details of the technology on their site, including all the technical jargon.

“Whether you’re building a VR golf club or an indoor quad-copter, 3D tracking is the heart of your product”, the site says.

“Developed in-house at Valve, SteamVR Tracking is a hardware/software solution that lets your devices know in real time where they are, within a room. Valve is now making SteamVR Tracking fully available to other companies, without licensing fees.”

This is the same technology used in the HTC Vive. Valve is hoping that this will lead to growth in the VR market.

It may take a while for the impact of this to be felt in how VR games are made, but it’s a good sign that this technology is being made readily available.

These new Dishonored 2 screens show off the finer details Fri, 05 Aug 2016 06:15:03 +0000 There’s no blood being spilled in these screens, just a closer look at Dishonored 2‘s art style.

There’s a focus on environments and faces in these screens, collected below.

The game’s looking good – even when it’s not in motion there’s a definite sense of place and character.

It’s been a while since I last played Dishonored, so as much as I loved it I’m not entirely sure if we’re meant to recognise these characters. The painter and his subject look familiar, though.

Dishonored 2 will launch on November 11 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Galak-Z just got some free DLC Fri, 05 Aug 2016 05:20:55 +0000 Sci-fi shooter Galak-Z has been updated with its free ‘Season 5’ DLC pack, which adds ‘The Void’.

Over at the PlayStation Blog, 17-Bit’s Raj Joshi framed this DLC release as a ‘rebranding’ for the game, one that will invite new play styles.

You’ll now finally get to battle Galak-Z villain The Baron, but to do so you’ll need to venture into The Void, an increasingly difficult, randomly generated arena of death and mayhem.

Galak-Z is also getting optional checkpoints, which will make the game much easier for new players to get into – previously, it was permadeath all the way through.

This DLC is a free download for any owners of Galak-Z on PS4; the blog doesn’t mention the PC version, but it’s safe to assume it’s coming there too.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s free weekend is also a double XP event Fri, 05 Aug 2016 04:53:25 +0000 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be flooded with new players over the free weekend, so why not rack up some XP while you’re showing them how to play?

Black Ops 3_MP_Havoc_WM_small

You’ve got until Monday to take advantage of the double XP, which will apply across standard multiplayer modes as well as zombie mode.

This means that if you try the game over the free weekend and enjoy it (which you honestly might, because this is a particularly fun Call of Duty), you can unlock some of the better weapons a bit faster than usual.

If you’re waiting for the next Call of Duty before you jump back in, Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is due November 4.
